As you may have noticed, the district high tunnel is currently without its plastic covering! Our staff had planned to fully replace the polyfilm this fall, but elected to leave it open during the winter to utilize snow to provide a protective armor against wind erosion and trap some thermal energy within the soil. As the snow melts in the spring, it will infiltrate into the soil rather than evaporating and wicking minerals to the surface. Once the high tunnel is covered again, we will be looking to incorporate more methods of improving soil health during the growing season. Questions regarding the high tunnel can be directed to Kaylie via phone (701)724-6226 Ext. 112 or email kaylie.carver@nd.nacdnet.net.
