On Sept. 16, 2021, Wild Rice Soil Conservation District hosted an annual North Dakota Eco Ed Day at Silver Lake for all three of our county schools. Schools include North Sargent, Sargent Central & Milnor. This year we hosted 58 students (7th & 8th grade) & their teachers. The entertainment portion starts right after registration with The Remarkable Reptiles by Jim Gerholdt who explained his vast array of turtles, lizards and snakes. The kids had a great time learning from Jim!
After that, the students rotated through 5 different breakout sessions throughout the day. The sessions include Prairie, Soils, Woodlands, Wetlands and Watersheds & Water Quality. We served them lunch and took a group photo. They are tested before this day and after they have attended to see what they have learned. Once all paperwork and testing is completed by the district, we can receive a grant to be reimbursed.

It is the goal of the Wild Rice Soil Conservation District to educate and help the local land users (for conservation of soil) right here in Sargent County. We do this by offering a variety of services and making available various technical, financial, and educational resources.
