The Wild Rice SCD is partnering with the North Dakota Game and Fish Department and the North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality to create more options for Sargent County producers that want to improve water quality and wildlife habitat. The Red River Basin Wildlife and Water Quality Enhancement Pilot Program provides cost-share assistance for seeding cropland to grass cover. Through this program we can also provide a rental agreement with producers for up to 5 years on areas seeded down to cover at 50% of the average county rental rate. Think of it as a sort of short-term CRP program. A few examples of ideal fits for this program would be difficult areas to farm near waterways, saline areas, and eroded areas. It is the goal of the Wild Rice Soil Conservation District to educate and help the local land users (for conservation of soil) right here in Sargent County. We do this by offering a variety of services and making available various technical, financial, and educational resources.
