The Wild Rice SCD is partnering with the North Dakota Game and Fish Department and the North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality to create more options for Sargent County producers that want to improve water quality and wildlife habitat. The Red River Basin Wildlife and Water Quality Enhancement Pilot Program provides cost-share assistance for seeding cropland to grass cover. Through this program we can also provide a rental agreement with producers for up to 5 years on areas seeded down to cover at 50% of the average county rental rate. Think of it as a sort of short-term CRP program. A few examples of ideal fits for this program would be difficult areas to farm near waterways, saline areas, and eroded areas.
